We speculate that this fold plays a major role in the segmentation of the Sumatra megathrust, and may impede rupture propagation in the region. It has a deep red coloration and many people consider these Indonesian plume agates to be some of the finest in the world. The shallow megathrust interface of subduction zones host our largest earthquakes, and are the only faults capable of M9+ ruptures. It was collected from Karang Jaya in Northern Sumatra. Slab2 - A Comprehensive Subduction Zone Geometry Model, Sumatra-Java Region Metadata Updated: NovemSubduction zones are home to the most seismically active faults on the planet. Below northern Sumatra, we find that the slab is folded at depth, exhibiting geometry similar to that of the volcanic arc and the trench at the surface. 75 5.4' Red, Indonesian Plume Agate Slab - North Sumatra, Indonesia This is a gorgeous, 5.4' wide, polished slab of red, Indonesian plume agate/jasper. We speculate that this fold plays a major. New data provided by the 2004–2005 Sumatra‐Andaman great earthquake sequences allow us to image with improved detail the P‐wave velocity structure beneath Sumatra and adjacent regions. Below northern Sumatra, we find that the slab is folded at depth, exhibiting geometry similar to that of the volcanic arc and the trench at the surface.
